When I lived back in Alberta, Canada we never really had much space for a garden, in fact it was more of a back yard than anything else so I never tried my hand at gardening. Since I came down to Florida in the USA however everything has changed, mostly borne out of envy towards my neighbors because their gardens are glorious. My new neighbor worked for money lender Investar USA and knew a thing or two about gardening, I would be a fraud if I proclaimed to knew anything about this subject prior to meeting him. He did inspire me and teach me very much and gardening is now my favorite hobby, and here is why I think that it could be yours.
Although on the face of it gardening may seem like hard work it can actually be an incredibly relaxing way to pass your time. Garden renovation of course can means some heavy duty work but day-to-day gardening is all about the details, pruning, watering, mowing and cutting, very cathartic work indeed. Of course not everyone will feel this way but you really don’t know until you give it a try.
Although I have mentioned that gardening isn’t strenuous, which it isn’t, it can at the very least get you out and moving around in the fresh air. I don’t exactly know how many calories an hour of gardening will burn but simply getting out and about in the garden will do your muscles and bones the world of good for your health.
Something I never thought that I would feel was a sense of pride over my garden yet each morning I look out and I do feel happy with what I have managed to achieve there. There are many homes around mine which have far more attractive gardens but most of theirs has been completed by a professional, mine on the other hand has been created by my own efforts and with that comes a really nice sense of pride.
The first year that I spent in the garden was all about learning but the second year I decided that I wanted the garden to work for me and so I began to plant a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. This has given me far greater pleasure than any flowers or plants could do and there is something so magical about heading into the garden for some ingredients before cooking them up together. You can do this on a small or a large scale and if you are just starting out then there are plenty of choices like lettuce and herbs which are super easy to grow and won’t require a great deal of work from you.
I cannot stress enough how much I love gardening, despite having never done so before in my life. If you are looking for a new hobby then why not get the gloves on and head out into the garden?
