4 Tips For Selling Your Art Online

January 20, 2021 //  by Sophia//  Leave a Comment

If you love painting, then chances are you’d love the idea of being able to make it more than just a hobby and more of a full-time job. Even though a lot of people dismiss the possibility of being an artist as a full-time time position, the truth is that it’s completely possible!

There are lots of people out there that not only sell their art but make a lot of money doing it! No one said it was easy, however. In order to be successful at it, you have to make sure that you’ve got the right tips under your belt.

If you’re interested in selling your art, the best place to start is online. Here are the best tips for doing it.

Write a Detailed Description

Since art is so subjective, it can be beneficial to spell out what you’re trying to convey. The more detailed that you are about what you felt when you created your art, the more that people will resonate with it.

Not only does it help people better understand your piece and hopefully connect to it, but it also helps the internet find you based on keywords. Make sure that you read a little about search engine optimization while you’re at it so that you know the best keywords to choose.

Network

It doesn’t matter if you’re selling girl scout cookies or your framed paintings; you’ll sell the most amount of merchandise by networking and being social. The great thing about networking is you don’t have to physically network anymore. Although meeting people face to face is still hugely beneficial, you can network just as well, if not better online.

There are all sorts of places online where people go to find artists they admire. From Flickr to Instagram, get to know a few different platforms, and don’t be too shy to make friends!

Start a Blog

Everyone is blogging these days, so why shouldn’t you? Not only does an art blog give you credibility, but it brings potential buyers your way. It only takes a few posts a week to start to gain a following.

If you prefer to post images rather than writing, then that’s fine. There are plenty of highly visual blogs out there that gather thousands of visitors a month.

Start a Newsletter

Gather as many emails as you can from your network and start sending out newsletters! Let everyone know what you’re up to and what your latest projects are. Over time, you’ll hopefully have such a large list that at least one person is bound to buy!

Conclusion:

Even though selling art online isn’t exactly a piece of cake, the internet is the best place to get the maximum amount of visibility for your creations. By staying persistent and remaining positive, you’ll start to build an online clientele.
