Discover Spain’s Hidden Cultural Gems in Almeria

August 19, 2019 //  by Sophia//  Leave a Comment

Almeria is a really unique place in Spain. Few places come close to capturing the spirit of this town. Between free tapas, beautiful beaches, natural parks, and Europe’s only desert there is a lot drawing visitors in. However, in-between crossing the desert and soaking up the atmosphere of the driest place in Europe, there is an awful lot of cultural distractions to be filling your time with.

Almeria might bring in plenty of visitors who know what they’re looking for, but it is hardly Spain’s tourist hotspots. This under the radar feel lets you really experience something unique. If you want to see everything the culture of Almeria has to offer, these are the things you need to have on your list.

Fondon

Fondon is a historical oddity that you can visit in Almeria. It was the home of the last Moorish king of Spain. The small town is soaking in the influence of this period of history. The hermitage of the Virgin of Las Angusitas is a particular highlight, along with the newly restored Mudejar houses. If you’re looking for an interesting place to visit, then Fondon should definitely be on your list in Almeria.

Museums

Almeria is home to many fantastic museums, what is even better though is that many of them are free. The Museo Archeologico de Almeria is a particular highlight. It features some impressive archaeological finds that you can explore, all for free. If you’re travelling with a family, it even offers some free children’s activities for those rainy days.

The Churches

The churches and cathedrals of Spain are typically stunningly built and wonderfully decorated, Almeria is no exception. The Iglesia Virgen del Mar is particularly special. It hosts a floral celebration to the Virgen of the sea each year. The remain of a 12th Century mosque from the Islamic Period is another site that you don’t want to miss.

The Tapas Trail

Berja in Almeria is home to the Tapas trail, a type of pub crawl centred on letting its participants to sample both the best tapas and drink of the area. You can soak up the varied tastes of Spain in one trip on this unforgettable tour.

Free Lunch

Something really special about Almeria is the custom of giving out a free lunch. Ordering a drink in the town will always come with a free plate of Tapas. Some restaurants allow you to chose while others will just let you sample everything on offer. Without spending anything on food, you can actually eat anything that Spain’s vibrant cuisine has to offer with these free plates.

With so much to do, there is no wonder so many people look for property in Almeria. While searching for that perfect piece of property for sale in Almeria on property portals like www.sunuti.com/property/sale/almeria , you can enjoy those free lunches in-between visits! As such a vibrant and undisturbed part of Spain, it is a popular place for those looking to escape the usual tourist hustle and bustle. Finding property for sale in Almeria is the best way to soak up everything the area has to offer.
